1. Introduction
Switchr ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Switchr mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use the App. By using Switchr, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: Email address, password (hashed), display name, and date of birth/age.
- Profile Information: Photos, biography text, gender identity, sexual orientation, pronouns, relationship status, interests, and passions.
- Mode-Specific Data: Separate profile content for Meaningful mode and Momentary mode, including mode-specific bios, statuses, and photos.
- Communications: Messages sent through in-app chat, including text and shared photos. Messages are end-to-end encrypted by default — only you and your match can read message content. Switchr cannot access encrypted message contents.
- Preferences: Discovery preferences, notification settings, and privacy settings.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Location Data: Approximate location (latitude/longitude) when you grant location permission, used for distance-based matching.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, and push notification tokens.
- Usage Data: Last active timestamp, current mode selection, and interaction patterns (swipes, likes, sparks).
- Error and Performance Data: Crash reports, error stack traces, and app performance metrics collected via Sentry. This data does not include message content, photos, or profile information. IP addresses are scrubbed before storage, and no email addresses are transmitted.
2.3 Information from Third Parties
- Google Sign-In: If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and name from Google.
- Apple Sign-In: If you sign in with Apple, we receive your email address (or a private relay address) and optional name.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To display your profile to other users for matching purposes.
- To facilitate matches, messaging, and social features.
- To enforce daily interaction limits and subscription features.
- To send push notifications about matches, messages, and app updates.
- To enforce our Terms of Service, including age verification and content moderation. This includes automated analysis of uploaded photos to detect prohibited content (NSFW material) and to estimate age for safety compliance. These checks are performed by AI models running on Cloudflare's infrastructure; images are not retained after analysis.
- To verify your identity through optional selfie verification, which compares a live selfie to your profile photos using AI image analysis.
- To investigate and respond to user reports and safety concerns.
- To comply with legal obligations, including child safety reporting (see Section 9).
4. Mode Isolation
Switchr operates in two distinct modes: Meaningful and Momentary. Your activity in one mode (swipes, matches, conversations) is completely separate from the other. Profiles you interact with in Meaningful mode will not see your Momentary mode activity, and vice versa. This separation is enforced at the database level.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Neon, a serverless PostgreSQL database platform, and Cloudflare R2 for photo storage. These services provide:
- Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS for all API communications).
- Encryption at rest for database storage and photo storage.
- Server-side authorization ensuring users can only access their own data.
- Private photos are access-controlled and require authentication.
Authentication tokens and encryption keys are stored securely on your device using platform-native secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). Chat messages are end-to-end encrypted using X25519 key exchange and AES-256-GCM — message content cannot be read by Switchr or any third party.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Other Users: Your profile information (name, photos, bio, interests) is visible to other users as part of the matching experience.
- Service Providers: We use the following third-party services to operate the App. Each receives only the minimum data necessary for its function:
- Neon — serverless PostgreSQL database (stores account data, profiles, matches, messages).
- Firebase (Google) — authentication and JWT token verification.
- Cloudflare — API hosting (Workers), photo storage (R2), and on-device AI content moderation (Workers AI). Photos are analyzed for safety compliance; the AI models run on Cloudflare's infrastructure and do not retain image data after processing.
- Fly.io — real-time chat server hosting. Processes WebSocket connections and message delivery; messages are persisted to the database, not stored on Fly.io.
- Upstash — ephemeral Redis cache for typing indicators only. No messages, profile data, or personally identifiable information is stored. Data expires automatically within seconds.
- Google and Apple — OAuth sign-in (email and name only).
- Expo — push notification delivery (receives push tokens and notification content, not message text).
- RevenueCat — subscription and in-app purchase management. Receives your anonymous user ID and subscription status. Does not receive your name, email, profile data, or message content.
- Sentry — error monitoring. Receives only anonymized crash data and performance metrics. IP addresses are scrubbed before storage; no email addresses, message content, or profile data is transmitted.
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, regulation, or legal process, including reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
- Safety: To protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information via your profile settings.
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data directly from the app (Settings > Delete Account). This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
- Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format.
- Opt-Out: Disable push notifications or location sharing in your device settings.

8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- Your profile, photos, matches, messages, and interaction history are permanently deleted.
- Some anonymized data may be retained for safety and legal compliance purposes (e.g., report records).
- Deletion is processed immediately upon confirmation.
9. Child Safety (CSAM Policy)
Switchr has a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and the exploitation of minors. Our app is restricted to users aged 18 and older.
- Age verification is required during account creation.
- Users can report suspected underage users or CSAM content through our in-app reporting system.
- Reports involving minors are escalated immediately and reported to NCMEC via the CyberTipline.
- Accounts found in violation are permanently banned.
10. Cookies and Tracking
The Switchr mobile app does not use cookies or third-party advertising trackers. We do not participate in cross-app tracking or targeted advertising. Our error monitoring service (Sentry) collects only technical crash and performance data and does not track user behavior or serve advertisements.
11. Children's Privacy
Switchr is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that a user is under 18, their account will be immediately terminated and their data deleted.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
